Phillip H. Corboy, a nationally-known plaintiff trial lawyer, NITA stalwart, and friend to us all, died June 12 in Illinois.
Phil was named vice-chair of NITA’s original Board of Trustees in 1971. Throughout the years, he continued as a board member and most currently served as an emeritus member. Through his work training young lawyers with NITA methods, and his support for law students through the Loyola University Chicago School of Law Corboy Fellowship in Trial Advocacy Scholarship, Phil may be best known as a role model and mentor for countless trial lawyers.
Patti Bobb, Phil’s friend and fellow NITA Board of Trustee member, remembers him fondly:
“Phil was my dear friend and mentor in the law. In particular, it was thanks to his generous scholarship to NITA that I was able to attend my first NITA session in 1973. His love of NITA and commitment to training young lawyers has inspired my devotion to the organization over all of the years since. He was the quintessential trial lawyer and a good and decent man. He will be missed.”

NITA’s team of practicing lawyers, professors and judges from around the nation dedicates its efforts to the training and development of skilled and ethical legal advocates to improve the adversarial justice system.
